From all around the country they came,
retirees, pensioners, elderly people and their friends from different part of
the world who were there to witness another joyous day in the lives of their
loved ones. They were all gathered at CLAM Event Centre, Ojodu, Lagos, to
celebrate the 2016 World Elders Day.
When all were well seated, the convener of
the event Dr David Oludare Mark welcomed all to the ceremonies, extolling the virtues
of the elderly and the need for society to celebrate them with good social packages.
One of such social packages
formed the theme of the day’s event which is; the lecture on the ‘emerging banking platforms for the elderly.’ He said according to research, senior citizens go through stress during bank transactions and mostly left unattended, leading to frustrations and loss of funds. He added that individuals aged 50+ own 40% of Nigerian bank deposits especially from pension funds and other business transactions and that many older people have been reluctant to adopt digital banking due to lack of user friendly platforms and understanding.

After such an opportunity to sit together
in their dainty clothes to learn, the elders at the event were all prepared to
have fun. After all, it was a party! So the elders enjoyed a cultural dance competition,,
fashion parade, exhibition of geriatric and nutritional products and some of
them were well rewarded with recognition awards.
So the 2016 Roll Model Award went to His
Excellency, the Governor of Lagos, Akinwunimi Ambode, Pastor Wole Oladiyun the
Founder and Senior Pastor of CLAM got the Anchor Man For The Aged Award, Mrs
E.A. Onadipe and Mrs Shade Solarin got the Grandma of the Year Award while
others like Mrs Stella Kragha and twenty others also got awards.
