An elated Lion Olatundun Omosaiye shared the
news with us and
also told us about some of her plans for the club as President.
also told us about some of her plans for the club as President.
‘We have already started work. Some of our
club activities have been to feed the poor. We did that recently, when my club
members sponsored an ‘open air lunch for the poor’. It was a good opportunity
to feed over 400 people who came out for the event at Obanikoro, here in Lagos.
We have also visited an orphanage where we made some donations of work
equipments to people who were already trained as mechanics, tailors,
vulganizers, that is what my club does, ’ said Mrs Omosaiye.
‘But one of my greatest challenges during
my tenure will be to build a 250 capacity hall for the Paccelli School for the
Blind at Yaba. We recently visited them and that is one of the things they
tabled to us as their needs. Their other needs were a bus and a generator. But
we felt that the hall was more pressing because some of them fall off since the
place is not conducive.
Doing that I also agree will be laudable.
We will have to demolish what is there now, raise a new foundation and then
build a befitting foundation for them.
So part of what we will be doing at the
November 13th induction ceremony party, will be to raise the needed
funds to kick-start that project.
Asked if she hopes to complete the new hall
project for the Pacelli School for the Blind during her tenure, Lion Olatundun
Omosaiye replied, ‘I do not do long term projects. I have talked to God so I
believe people will come out to support us to make sure it is completed in a
short time. My God is a God of now. He didn’t say He will give us long term
food, He said He will give us our daily bread and I trust Nigerians, they are
humanitarian in nature, so we will accomplish the project within a short time.
And what does Lions Club mean to her, ‘is a
holistic way of living, ‘it is a way of helping other people to achieve their
goals in life, the blind, the needy, affecting our environment, lions club
feeds the hungry which is a major part of our activities and of course the
empowerment of people,’ she added.
