*Programme Producer and children-presenters,
pay visit to FRSC Marshal in Abuja
Children of Our World a new magazine children programme made a debut on television few weeks back. The programme which is mainly recorded in Nigeria’s capital city, Abuja is also presently in regular productions.
Few days back, the programme hostess and the children
guest, took the set recording to the office of the Federal Road Safety Corps
Marshal Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi for an interview on child safety in vehicles. It was
a time for gaining knowledge and learning about the law of the land.
Some of the questions the children asked the Road
Marshal are: Is there any law regulating the speed limit of cars around school areas
or school buses, as in developed countries, are vehicles allowed to overtake a
stopped school bus picking or dropping children: Children are seen being
carried by an adult while driving, is it right: where is the right place for a
child to sit in a car and others.
In reply, the Corps Marshal said that there was
certainly speed limit around school areas and advised that drivers should be
careful within such areas. He also said that it is an offence to drive while
carrying a child, that it was child endangerment, that if caught, such a person
will be prosecuted within the law. The right place for a child to sit is at the
back of the car, well strapped. The Corps Marshal promised to sponsor this part
of the programme.
Children of Our World is a 30 minute edutainment
TV show, a good programme for the Nigerian children audience. The programme is
divided into segments such as, state in focus, where information about a state's
uniqueness, tourist sites culture festivals and so on are discussed, other
segments are special Interview, where children visit a celebrity of top
government official.
