Prof. Wole Soyinka with Mr. Louis Odion |
The controversy stirred by Professor Wole Soyinka's
ripping his US green card following the election of Donald Trump as US
President echoed back yesterday with the presentation of a new book by the
Nobel laureate.
The event took place at the iconic Freedom Park, Lagos.
Published by Bookcraft, Soyinka's latest offering
entitled, "Green Cards, Green Gods", dwells on the "media
firestorm" that preceded and followed his ripping of his US Green Card in
fulfillment of an earlier vow against what he described as then US Republican
presidential candidate Donald Trump's unprovoked assault on the racial
sensibilities of those outside his white supremacist community, especially
African immigrants.
An article written by respected columnist, Mr. Louis
Odion, entitled "Kongi and Trump's illegitimate kids" is among the
essays contained in the book by the literary giant.
Personally introducing Mr. Odion at yesterday's event,
the literary giant described the columnist as "one of the few thorough and
knowledgeable writers around".
Odion's article, which was written in November 2016, is
believed to have been selected for Soyinka's book based on its "depth and
range".
Respected for his courage and inimitable style, Odion
is a multiple-award-winning journalist.
