The Commandant General of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Gana Abdullahi has promised a robust relationship with various licensed security organizations in Nigeria.
Gana Abdullahi said this much at a meeting with the Chief executives of security companies at Sheraton Hotel Lagos during an event tagged: An Evening with the Commandant General.
Throughout its existence the meeting became the first time that a commamdant general of the NSCDC has ever sat down to a thorough meeting with the chief executive officers of the security companies in Nigeria.
At the meeting Gana Abdullahi who was appointed by President Mohammadu Buhari in July 17, 2015 told his audience that evening that he is throwing open his doors to welcome the security companies, to work together and ensure a cordial security synergy between government and the private sector.
As a way of moving forward, Gana Abdullahi announced to his eager audience that henceforth private security companies can renew their licences online which will create the needed access to renewal without the usual bottlenecks and red tapism.
The information brought a big excitement among the Chief executives and also gave them a relaxed atmosphere to ask for more. As a body, they laid before the commandant some of their challenges being, the incursion of expatriates into our industrial security space, they asked that the NSCDC should not allow private guard companies who are using Nigerians as proxy directors to operate. That the presence of those expatriates is a treat to national security as they continuously may be providing useful intelligencve to either their countries or terrorists, as they are not expected to be patriotic.
They also complained of large debt profile of guard companies and requested the commandant general to assist in recovering debt from customers. They complained that the Act as it is presently drafted does not allow operators to work as private investigators and the fierce competition of NSCDC officers with private security operators.
It was a win-win evening as the Commandant General of NSCDC showed that he has a listening ears. He stepped in and corrected the challenges faced by the guard companies. He went ahead to give the CEO's his word that he would remove the competition presently taking place within the industry.
