PEARL Awards Nigeria has announced the appointment
to its Board of Governors, notable personalities from corporate Nigeria including
Dr. Suleyman Ndanusa, OON; Chief (Mrs) Nike Akande, CON; Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa,
OFR; Mr. Olufemi Awoyemi, FCA; Mrs Toyin
Sanni and Prince Abimbola Olashore.
According to a release signed by Olalekan Adekoya,
Secretary, Board of Governors, the Board was reconstituted as part of efforts
to strengthen its governance and enhance the performance of the Awards Project
towards the realization of its objectives and to further contribute meaningfully
to the growth of the capital market and by extension, the nation’s economy.
The new Board members are top flight and
respected Professionals whose wealth of experience span the capital market and
the financial sector of our economy. Dr.
Suleyman Ndanusa was Director General, Securities and Exchange Commission
(SEC) and also served as Chairman of Board of SEC between 2013 and 2015. Prior
to that, he was the Managing Director/CEO, Spring Bank Plc and served as a
Non-Executive Director of UAC of Nigeria Plc. Dr. Ndanusa was Past
President/Chairman of Council, Institute of Chartered Secretaries and
Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN). A Fellow of Chartered Institute of
Stockbrokers and also a Fellow of Institute of Directors, Dr. Ndanusa holds a
B.Sc degree in Economics and obtained an MBA from Ahmadu Bello University,
Zaria. He also holds a Ph.D Degree in Management from University of San Juan,
United Kingdom. He is currently the Group Managing Director/CEO, Global Mandate
Consulting Limited.
Chief (Mrs) Nike Akande was the Immediate Past President, Lagos Chamber of Commerce
& Industry (LCCI). She was Nigeria's first female Minister of Industry
after she was appointed twice in December 1997 and August 1998. She was a
delegate at the 2014 National Conference as well as member of Nigeria Vision 2010 and Vision
20:2020. She is a board member of Union Bank of
Nigeria and PZ Foundation. She also serves as the director of the National Insurance
Corporation of Nigeria and the Nigeria Industrial Development Bank. On 8
December 2015, she was appointed Chairman of the NEPAD Business Group Nigeria.
A
recipient of the African Federation of Women Entrepreneur Award, she was
conferred as an Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON)
in 2003 and Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON)
in 2014. Chief (Mrs)
Akande holds a B.Sc in Accountancy from the North-Western
Polytechnic (now University
of North London) after graduating in 1968. She is also an alumnus of the Harvard
Business School and the International Institute for
Management Development .
Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa was
the Chairman /Managing Director of Neimeth International Pharmaceuticals Plc.
He was Past President, Nigeria Employers Consultative Association (NECA), Past
President, Nigerian American Chamber of Commerce (NACC) and Past Chairman,
Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG). Mazi Ohuabunwa was a member of the
Presidential Advisory Council (PAC) and served as a member of the Presidential
Committee on Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme (SURE-P). He is a Fellow
of several professional bodies including the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria,
the Nigerian Institute of Management, and the Institute of Management
Consultants among others. Mazi Ohuabunwa read Pharmacy at the University of Ife
(now Obafemi Awolowo University) and had Postgraduate training in Business and
Organizational Management at the Columbia University, New York, USA.
Mr. Olufemi Awoyemi is
the Founder/CEO, Proshare Nigeria Limited and WEB TV. Prior to this, he served
as MD/CEO, P2P Media Partners Limited. He had earlier worked as Head, Treasury
and Management Account, British American Tobacco. He also worked at the
different time with PriceWaterhouseCoopers, UAC of Nigeria Plc, Eterna Oil Plc,
Fountain Trust Bank, Philip Consulting and Change Management Associates. Mr.
Awoyemi is an Editoral Board Member of the Banking Journal of CIBN and the
Lagos Business School Alumni Magazine. A Fellow of Institute of Chartered
Accountants of Nigeria and an Associate of Institute of Directors, he holds a
B.Sc degree in Accounting from Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun
state.
Mrs Toyin Sanni, a
Lawyer, Chartered Secretary and Stockbroker was until recently the Group CEO at
United Capital Plc. Prior to that, she was the Managing Director/CEO, Capital
Trustees Limited, a subsidiary of United Capital Plc. She was a Council Member
of Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN), a
Fellow and Vice President, Association of Pension Funds of Nigeria, an
Associate of the Institute of Directors, Nigeria and President, Association of
Corporate Trustees Nigeria. She had served on various Committees including the
National Bond Steering Committee and the West African Capital Market
Integration Technical Committee. She also served as Chairman of the Nigerian
Capital Market Annual Retreat Committee for 2012 and 2013. Mrs Sanni who holds
a Bachelor of Law degree from the University of Ife, and a Master degree, LLM
(Hons) from the University of Lagos is currently the CEO of Emerging Africa
Capital Limited.
Prince Abimbola Olashore is a
seasoned investment Banker, with vast experience and knowledge in the capital
market and in financial advisory services in the public and private sectors. He
was Managing Director / CEO, Lead Bank Ltd. He also worked with Ecobank Nigeria
Plc as Executive Director, Wholesale Banking Group. In 2007, he became the CEO
of Lead Capital Plc, a position he occupied till 2015. He is currently the
Managing Partner, Lead Advisory Partners and President, Association of
Investment Advisers & Portfolio Managers. Prince Olashore is an Engineering
Graduate of the University of Hull, United Kingdom. A Fellow of Institute of
Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, he also holds a Masters degree in Business
Administration from IESE Business School, Barcelona, Spain.
