Longest lived Head of State, Robert Mugabe, has received the final home call having in the past been rumoured to have died due to illness. He kicked the bucket and gave up the ghost today at a ripe age of 95!
He was prime minister and later president of independent Zimbabwe, He ruled from independence in 1980 till he was removed from power in 2017.
His death was announced by his successor, President Emmerson Mnangagwa who also admitted that Mugabe was "an icon of liberation, a pan-Africanist who dedicated his life to the emancipation and empowerment of his people. His contribution to the history of our nation and continent will never be forgotten.”
Mugabe was a maverick in many ways and was also known for his sarcastic, witty cracks.
