The Chairman of the Medical Guild, Dr Saheed Babajide Kehinde Saheed led his members of the body to Alausa Secretariat few days ago, to pay a courtesy visit, to Professor Akin Abayomi, the new Lagos state Commissioner for health.
The Medical Guild used the opportunity to discuss with the commissioner, the challenges facing health sector in the state which needs urgent attention and solutions. Some of the challenges are:
Acute Shortage of doctors/health workers.
Training and retraining of health workers
Good welfare Packages for the health workers to reduce brain drain.
Review of Lagos State Health Scheme
Each Primary health centre should have at least one doctor for achievement of Universal Health Coverage.
Governor should declare state of emergency in health sector and organise Lagos State Health Summit.
Building of more hospitals with recruitment of health workers and procurement of standard equipments among others.
Speaking later to newsmen, the Chairman of the Medical Guild, Dr Babajide Kehinde Saheed said it was a meaningful, worthwhile time with the honourable commissioner.
