I have read and listened to a lot of commentaries about the President's coming to koforidua and the fact that his visit has promptly necessitated the hasty patching of all potholed roads and the refixing of hitherto defunct street and traffic lights.
This quick-fix-to-impress attitude has been the fun fool practice from time immemorial. But the intriguing issues are that, the media, which is the mouthpiece of the citizenry and are also unmediated witnesses to the overt deplorable state of these infrastructures, always gloss their eyes over it and keep everlasting mute until such makeshift, fun fool, quick-fix-to-impress methods are employed.
Rather than waiting on the visit of the first gentleman of the land, before we hurriedly fix broken structures and discuss on various platforms, we expect the media, to constantly put untamed but warrantable pressure on the "powers that be", who are also representatives of the President in our region, and whose duty it is to regularly check and repair all malfunctioning infrastructures, regardless of times and season, to routinely fix these tattered infrastructures.
Needless to say that these infrastructures are the region's economic foundation and could positively or negatively impact on the socio-economic life of everybody in our region thus require regular and unconditional attention.
Citizens as we've been advised to be, it behoves on us to ceaselessly hold those in power of affairs accountable, irrespective of our political party affiliation and affinity.
This renowned region deserves better than this headless chicken and dodgy ostrich attitude, thus getting to work when a President visits and going back to sleep after his visit.
I shudder to ask, WHO ARE WE FOOLING OR IMPRESSING?
