Victor Olaiya, Doyen Of Highlife Music in Nigeria Dead At 89




Nigeria's doyen of Highlife music, Dr Victor Abimbola Olaiya has kicked the bucket. The legend of highlife bowed out honourably at the age of 89.
Former PMAN President Tee Mac Iseli took to his Facebook wall to formally announce the death of Dr Victor Olaiya in these words:  
"The entire music world wish to announce the death of a Living Legend of Highlife music one of the last man standing, the last of the original, Dr Victor Abimbola Olaiya OON.


"This untimely incident happened at Luth hospital Lagos State at exactly 12noon today Wednesday 12th of February, 2020. We pray that the Doyen of highlife music find repose with the creator while wishing the family and entire music community the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss. And to my name sake Abimbola Olaiya I will miss your contribution to highlife Music." 
From all over the world, condolence messages has began to pour in as more and more people get to hear about this breaking news.
Dr Victor Olaiya among other things was a trumpeter, a musician of note and sang many unforgettable songs that still sets the mood right at many social romance events in the city.
The highlife legend was known to have been exptremely popular in the 50s and 60s, and was also known for his regular "jump" which was a must for the society bigwigs of those years. Olaiya maintained his regular weekekend shows till he could do no more even in his 80s.
He will be long missed!
