The State symbols introduced by the Governor Udom Emmanuel-led administration is a not only a mark of identity, but an object of pride to the people of Akwa Ibom State.
The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Comrade Ini Ememobong made the disclosure on Friday, 20th November, 2020 during the Round Table, organized by the State Chapter of the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations, NIPR, at the Image House on Information Drive, Uyo.
The Commissioner who was the Special Guest at the occasion,said that the coming into operation of the State symbols - the Logo, Dakkada creed and the Anthem, have greatly shored up the pride of Akwa Ibom as a people, and satisfied the yearnings of past leaders of the state.
He said, the idea of the State symbols has remained a recurring issue for past governments. He Added that the symbols are not perfect as no human process is completely perfect.
The State Spokesman who was addressing the gathering on the State emblem, the Anthem and the Flag, which was the theme of the Roundtable, urged all to consider firstly the underpinning philosophy of the State symbol which is a source of pride and mark of identity to the people, especially having been passed into Law by the State House of Assembly.
In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr. inyang Jameson said, there is no perfect symbol of any Country or State as a critique can be made on any object by a reviewer but implored all to love and accept what we own as our symbol of authority and identity.
On her part, the Chairman of the Ethical and Attitudinal Reorientation Commission, EARCOM said, from interactions with people in the Diaspora, Akwa Ibom Anthem ranks the best and implored all to accept and internalized the wordings of the Anthem and symbol of the State logo.
Speaking earlier, the Chairman of the occasion, Prof Desmond Wilson, of the Communication Ats Department, University of Uyo and the State Chapter Chairman of NIPR, Mr. Nsemeke Udoakpan, had welcomed all to the Round Table and expressed appreciation to the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Comrade Ini Ememobong for providing them with the state emblem and Anthem for a critique and for attending the event with officials of the Ministry.
The Round Table had Prof Peter Esuh of the University of Uyo, as the Keynote Speaker, had the Dean of Faculty of Environmental Studies, University of Uyo, Prof Best Ochigbo and the Regional Editor of Premium Times, Mr. Clifford Ukpong as Discussants.
Among the entourage of the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Comrade Ini Ememobong to the event were: the Director of Information, Akparawa James Edet and the Director of Public Relations, Mrs. Grace Akpan.
