Classes resume for pioneer students of NIPR Uyo Study Centre




Classes have kicked-off in earnest for the Pioneer students of the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations, NIPR, Uyo Study Centre.



Welcoming the students earlier today, Saturday, 13th February, 2021 to the Study Centre at the Image House along Information Drive, off IBB Avenue in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, the Chairman of the State Chapter of NIPR, Mr. Nsemeke Udoakpan said, the students have into history as the first set of professionals trained for NIPR Certification programmes in the state.



Mr. Nsemeke Udoakpan expressed appreciation to the Coordinator of the Uyo Study Centre, Mr Uduak Obot for his dexterity in ensuring the opening of the study centre in Uyo , the faculty members for their commitment and interest in outlining and packaging the courses for the students and the students for the humility in coming out to learn.


On his part, the Study Centre Coordinator, Mr. Uduak Obot, who carried the students through a power-point orientation, said, the programme will equip the students to become professional PR practitioners and thanked the state NIPR for the confidence reposed in him by his appointment.



He expressed appreciation to the State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Comrade Ini Ememobong for sponsoring majority of the students for the one year programme and commended the Director of Public Relations in the Ministry, Mrs. Grace Akpan for successfully putting in place necessary procedures for the successful registration of students for the programme.


The day's events witnessed an introduction into few courses in the PR Certificate and PR Diploma programme by three Faculty members including: Prof Des Wilson and Prof Nsikanabasi Nkana of the University of Uyo as well as Mrs. Mercy Davies of Akwa Ibom Broadcasting Corporation.


Highlights of the the orientation programme which had in attendance the Director of Information, Akparawa James Edet, were: self introduction by students as well as appointment of Governors for the Certificate and Diploma classes, which had Mr. Ubon Marcus, the SA on Social Media to the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, for the Certificate programme and Mrs. Grace Akpan, Director, Public Relations for the Diploma programme.

Some of the courses lined up for the programmes include; DPR 311 - Public Relations and Strategic Management, Policy and Corporate planning; DPR 312- Corporate, Product and Service Brands Management, DPR 315 - Strategic Communication and Crises Management and DPR 316 - Research Methods for Public Relations, among others.
