South-South calls on Sen. Akpabio - Mr Fix It, to Fix Nigeria

The people of Calabar and the South-South geo-political zone have made a clarion call for the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio to contest for the seat of Nigeria’s Presidency in 2023.

The clarion call was made at a Press Conference in Calabar by men, women and youth of the Godswill Akpabio Uncommon Transformational Support Organization (GAUTSO) based on their collective conviction that his sterling capacity and proven track record in public service spanning over 20 years, stand him in good stead as the man who can take the country to great heights.

Mr Patrick Archibong, a key note speaker at the Press Conference highlighted some issues plaguing the country which Senator Godswill Akpabio could tackle considering his bold stance about matters affecting the people. On education he noted that the students bear the brunt of strikes by lecturers demanding for better remuneration.

The security situation needs urgent attention as many Nigerians feel the country is not safe anymore; while unemployed youths have taken to engaging in negative activities to make money. Archibong called on Senator Akpabio to come out and fix Nigeria for all Nigerians since he is one Nigerian who is seen to have the progress and development of the country at heart.

Mrs Helen Bassey-Osijo, another key note speaker, while recounting key achievements of Senator Akpabio in his six years as a Commissioner, eight years as Governor, four years as Senate Majority leader and two years as Niger Delta Minister, noted that the plethora of awards received while he was Governor between 2007 and 2015 and recently as Minister of the Year 2021, are a testimony to his uncommon transformational leadership.

Mrs Bassey-Osijo pointed that even as Senator Akpabio invested in infrastructural development of Akwa Ibom, his greatest achievement and what will always stand him in good stead with Akwa Ibomites remains his investment in human beings, touching lives and improving livelihood opportunities across the state. GAUTSO Calabar is therefore asking him to come out to contest for the Presidency of Nigeria and do for the whole country what he did in Akwa Ibom state.

She emphasized his credential as a statesman who supports a united Nigeria; being instrumental to the creation of the Southern Senators Forum at the upper chamber of the National Assembly in 2017 and having that forum unequivocally pledge its support for a united Nigeria at a time when agitations by some ethnic groups seeking secession were prevalent.

Concluding the GAUTSO Calabar team said, to Godswill Akpabio a modern, charismatic and performance-driven leader who because of his performance in Akwa Ibom got the slogan on every lip &Akwa Ibom ado OK& (meaning Akwa Ibom is OK&), we want you to heed our call to run for President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, so Nigeria can be better.’’
