Security Challenge: Zamfara State Enumeration Area Demarcation ( EAD) has reached 75 percent Completion

In its efforts to ensure 100 percent completion of the Enumeration Area Demarcation exercise of Zamfara state by National Population Commission, a joint meeting between Zamfara state government officials and the National population Commission was held on Thursday, April 21st to review the exercise with a view to concluding the enumeration area demarcation recently conducted in all the 36 states of the federation and Abuja.

The meeting which deliberated on the factors responsible for the non completion of the exercise also commended the Zamfara state office of the National Population Commission for its dogged perfomance in achieving 75 percent completion of the exercise despite the daunting security challenges it went through while conducting the Enumeration Area Demarcation exercise.

The meeting also commended local government councils and the traditional rulers in the state for playing greater roles in ensuring the conduct of the exercise to that level.

Briefing members of the Situation Control Room, the Federal commissioner of the NPC discharge of Zamfara state, Hon Muhammad Muttaka Rini said the commission was able to reach 75 percent completion of the exercise with Maru local government having only 43 percent.

According to him Anka, Gummi, Bukkuyum, Birnin Magaji and Talata Mafara local governments have been completed 100 percent. While Maradun, Bakura, Kaura Namoda and Shinkafi have reached 95 percent completion.

The Federal Commissioner said in Gusau and Tsafe, the exercise has reached 90 percent with Zurmi and   Bungudu reaching 85 and 80 percent respectively, giving a total of 75 percent total work completion across the state.

He said insecurity, Electricity, local guide and Transportation were some of the major challenges responsible for the  commission's inability to complete the exercise 100 percent in the affected local government areas.

Muttaka Rini said the commission had to use manual methodology to conduct the Enumeration Area Demarcation to avoid being left behind in the conduct of the exercise.

The meeting agreed that the exercise would be completed 100 percent before the end of May 2022, if the National headquarters of the NPC agreed to reopen its portal for Zamfara state.
