... As AKS PDP Women get ready to work for party's success
As events leading to the 2023 general elections in Akwa Ibom State gather momentum, women of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have assured that they are ready to ensure a continued engagement at various levels targeted towards securing success for the party in its outing at the polls.
At a meeting in Uyo, the PDP women who converged to discuss issues of party interest including 2023 general elections, agreed that the success of PDP is of utmost importance to them, while reaching a concensus to collectively work for the victory of the party.
The State Chairman of the party, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Aniekan Akpan, who addressed the women, acknowledged their role in deepening the reach of democracy and their numerical strength in deciding the emergence of leaders in every election, while charging them to keep remaining committed to the success of the party.
"We have women as leaders at various levels who are making good impacts. I’m encouraging you to go back home, mobilize and deliver PDP as you’ve always done. I’m so impressed with what the women are doing and that’s why we are so encouraged to give women more opportunities in government."
"Women are the majority and that is a plus. Endeavour to work with your various stakeholders for the success of our great party. We have a good record. We must preserve that record and even do better. Do well to work together with everyone because we have a structure and we must preserve it", he said.
On her part, wife of the PDP governorship candidate, Mrs Patience Umo Eno who extolled the women for their qualities, stated that the concern of the PDP gubernatorial standard bearer, Pastor Umo Eno, is to build on Gov. Udom Emmanuel's legacies and take Akwa Ibom to a greater height.
"He has golden ideas, golden vision, golden package for Akwa Ibom State. To help interpret this golden package is every woman here today. This journey is an all inclusive journey. As the campaign starts, it is the women seated here who will form the pillar of our support. God has appointed Pst. Umo Eno to hold this umbrella for us and I trust that the women won't leave us halfway."
Also speaking, the deputy governorship candidate of PDP, Sen (Dr) Akon Eyakenyi, in her optimism, noted that Akwa Ibom people have always trusted PDP to lead the state since 1999 and that 2023 will not be different given the good antecedents of the party in governance.
"From the days of Obong Attah to the present day administration, it's always been PDP. We can not alter the records now. We will win when we are strong and united", she said.
In their seperate remarks, wife of the former Governor of the state, Mrs Funmi Nkanga, wife of the State Party Chairman, Deaconess Unyime Akpan, State Women Leader of PDP, Deaconess Meme Akpabio, Commissioner for Women Affairs, Dr Ini Adiakpan and former commissioner for Agriculture and national assembly flag bearer for Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency, Dr. Glory Edet, agreed that the women are committed to work for the party and a sweeping victory at the polls come 2023.
The category of women who attended the PDP Women Stakeholders meeting include, Wife of the PDP Governorship Candidate, The Deputy Governorship Candidate of the Party, Wife of the Former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Female Commissioners, Wives of Commissioners, Female State Officers of the PDP, Board Chairmen and Members who are female, Female Candidates of the Party, Chairmen of Local Government Areas who are women, Senatorial Districts Women Leaders, Deputy Chapter Chairmen of the PDP who are women, Chapter Women Leaders of the PDP, amongst others.
