2023 Guber: Whatever You didn’t have will Come to You, Umo Eno tells Okobo People

In furtherance of his campaigns to govern Akwa Ibom State from 2023, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State, Pst. Umo Bassey Eno has pledged to meet the needs and aspiration of the people of Okobo Local Government Area if elected governor come 2023.

Umo Eno,  who was accompanied by his wife, Pst. Mrs. Patience and his running mate, Sen. Akon Eyakenyi made the avowal, Thursday at the PDP Governorship Campaign Rally in Okobo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

Speaking at the rally, Eno expressed his gratitude to the people of Okobo for their warm reception, and noted that the LGA has remained loyal and faithful to the PDP right from 1998, hence, the nomination of Sen. Akon Eyakenyi, an Oro daughter as the gubernatorial running mate of the Peoples Democratic Party.

He further described Sen. Eyakenyi as an amazon, an active player and an upwardly-mobile personality who has contributed immensely to human capital development, in terms of constituency projects, and added that her emergence as the first elected deputy governor will be of immense benefit to the Oron nation.

In his words, "To whom much is given, much is expected. We understand the role you've played for PDP since 1998. You have remained loyal, you have remained faithful, and the time has come for you to be rewarded for your faithfulness"

"Everybody from Oro nation will not have a complain this time because whatever you did not have will come to you because you have one of you in the executive position in the person of Sen. Akon Eyakenyi who is my running mate"

"She's going to become number two, and because she's number two, she's going to be a mother, a sister, and everything for you in Oron nation and Akwa Ibom State at large."

Reiterating his interest in commerce, tourism and rural development, the seasoned entrepreneur pledged to make Okobo and the entire coastline of Akwa Ibom the next gold mine for the State and promised to put an end to the issue of piracy within six months if elected as governor come 2023.

"I'm aware of the Atabong Beach and the market where we have all our seafoods which is no longer functional because of sea pirates. I promise you that within our first six months, we will do everything to ensure that market is functional"

"We will work with our security agencies and give them what they need so we can put the necessary security there. I'm notifying them (pirates) now that we're ready to confront them to make sure they don't steal from our people," he stated. 

He further promised to donate fishing boats to the Okobo people as well as put up a cold room to enable the storage of sea foods which according to him will help ensure they do not run at a loss. 

Referencing his rural development policy, Eno pledged to ensure that there’s a primary healthcare through the building of cottage hospitals that will facilitate access to healthcare for rural people.

In his opening remark, the Chairman of Okobo Local Government Area, Dr. Sylvester Atta thanked Governor Udom Emmanuel for the peace prevalent in Okobo in the past years, adding that without peace, nothing can be achieved.

He further noted that Okobo is known and accepted as the food basket of Oro nation, and further expressed confidence in Pastor Umo Eno's capacity to consolidate on the grand strides of Governor Udom Emmanuel. 

Describing the Okobo people as one of the most political group in the State, the Director General of PDP Campaign in the State, Chief Assam Assam expressed delight at the tumultuous crowd that turned up for the rally, and further urged them to get their PVCs ready so they can vote for PDP across all board in the forthcoming election. 

Speaking at the rally, the State Chairman of the PDP, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Akpan thanked the people of Okobo for their solidarity and unflinching support for the PDP right from 1999, and urged them to remain steadfast and unanimously vote for the PDP in the coming election.

Some of the dignitaries in attendance include,  the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, represented by his wife, Dr. Mrs. Martha Udom Emmanuel, PDP Chairman in AKS, Rt. Hon. Elder Aniekan Akpan, Deputy speaker, AKS House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Felicia Bassey, Secretary to the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem, Director General of Campaign,  Chief Assam Assam, Coordinator of Campaign, Sir Monday Ebong Uko, Rt. Hon. Dr. Ekong Sampson, Candidate for Okobo State Constituency, Mr. Bassey Pius Bassey, Former Speaker of AKS House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Peter Linus Umoh, amongst others.
