Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the March 11, 2023,
elections, Pastor Umo Eno has identified with Akwa Ibom women on their celebration of the 2023 International Women's Day (IWD).
Celebrated every year on March 8, the event focuses on the many and invaluable achievements of women across the globe.
In a press release signed by his Media Assistant, Anthony Udoh, the governorship hopeful paid tribute to the immense contributions Akwa Ibom women have made towards state-building, noting that they have been as instrumental as the men in our growth trajectory.
He noted with a sense of pride, the energy, enterprising spirit, commitment and focus of Akwa Ibom women who have excelled exceptionally in diverse fields of endeavour.
"Whether as artisans, farmers, traders, or professionals in their chosen careers, Akwa Ibom women have shown their capacityband proved their worth", he said in his message.
Pastor Eno noted that the choice of a woman, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, as his running mate for the forthcoming governorship elections was borne out of the desire to create more platforms for women to continue to excel in the state, and even beyond.
Referencing the theme of the 2023 IWD, "DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality" with its hashtag as #EmbraceEquality, he promised that if elected governor, his administration will work out policies for equal opportunities for women while accelerating the growth of young Akwa Ibom women in the digital and knowledge economy.
He promised to support the pet project his wife, Pastor Patience Umo Eno, will establish, as it will become another pillar of his administration's women and children empowerment policy.
He also promised that women will play greater and more significant roles in his government, if given the opportunity to serve, while the government will strive at dismantling seeming cultural and societal hurdles that have hindered their progress over the years.
