This year's children's Day celebration has come and gone but for children of New Testament Assembly Worldwide, Breakthrough Parish, Agege, Lagos, the memory will remain indelible in their minds for a long time to come.
That's because, the celebration was a funfair, with all the trappings of a colourful celebration with bouncy castles, various kinds of games and ofcourse good food and drinks.
Why such a big Celebration? Mrs Shola Keshinro, the Head of the Children's Department of New Testament Assembly Worldwide, Breakthrough Parish, Agege, had this to say:
"We used to distribute light refreshments among the children on Children's Day, it used to be a low key celebration. But last year, I had this thing in my spirit to repackage the Children’s Day celebration and use it to win more souls to the body of Christ. That last year, we had a party and some of the children who came for the party, continued to fellowship with us months after the celebration and even today they are still around. So that motivated us to do a bigger party for them this year, to win more souls. We are happy with the turn out today, it's a bigger number of children. Our's is to put smile on the faces of children especially the indigent children who ordinarily wouldn't have had any opportunity of having fun today. They have participated in the various games and had great fun."
Mrs Keshinro who works with the Ministry of Education, office of education quality assurance, gave a few of the children opportunity to express themselves.
Adekunle Ogunlana, Olamilekan Darasimi Samuel, Oshunkeye Gift, and 8 year old Ereoluwa Akinfe Daniel all shared their feelings about the day.
"Children's Day is a day set aside for children to play and have fun. Today is just for children not for other people. So as children, we are expected to have our fun today," said Adekunle.
Olamilekan thanked parents generally, "I wiĺl just say thank you so much to our parents for letting us have this fun opportunity especially the church thst created the environment for the Children's Day party."
While Oshunkeye Gift added that, "today is about Children’s Day, we are having fun here and that is why we have painted our faces in different colours, we are having fun jumping on bouncy castle, we have had many games. I am happy to be here. Apart from play, today I have also learnt that no matter what we are given, we should be contented. We should also be obedient to our parents."
According to the Parish Pastor, Rufus Olutuase, he is pleased with the growth of the children's department in the church which has also been as a result of the church providing a conducive environment for them, to be able to enjoy coming to church.
"I feel delighted and proud of these children, I pray that they should put God first in everything that they do, we are living in an era whereby morals are low. So I call on the government and parents to pay close attention to the moral education of our children at early age," he said.
