‘DOUBLE NOMINATION’: COMBAT Initiator, Sen Soji Akanbi Congratulates President-elect, Asiwaju Tinubu, Vice President-elect, Senator Shettima over Supreme Court Judgement

Senator Rilwan Adesoji Akanbi, the founder of Coalition Movement for Bola Ahmed Tinubu(COMBAT), has congratulated President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President-elect, Senator Kashim Shettima over supreme court judgement dismissing the suit seeking the disqualification of the duo as presidential and vice-presidential candidates of the All Progressives Congress(APC).

Recall, People’s Democratic Party(PDP) had earlier claimed that Sen. Shettima’s nomination as Asiwaju Tinubu’s running mate was in breach of the provisions of sections 29(1), 33, 35, and 84(1)(2) of the Electoral Act. Meanwhile, a five-member panel of the supreme court held on Friday that the issue being contested is an internal party affair and that the appellants lacked locus standing to institute the suit.

A sum of Two Million Naira was awarded against the PDP, even as the suit was dismissed for lacking in merit. The Justices further held that the attitude of the appellant (PDP), amounts to misleading the court, describing the move as “sad”.

The Okanlomo of Ibadan Land, Sen Akanbi while rejoicing, stated that PDP’s suit was frivolous and it showed that the party is an enemy of democracy, and good people of Nigeria.

Sen. Akanbi confirmed the statement of Justice Adamu Jauro who read the Judgement, that “truly, PDP acted as meddlesome Interloper and a busy body as it is an internal affair of the APC.

His congratulatory message reads in part,”Dear President-elect, Asiwaju Tinubu and Vice President-elect, Senator Shettima! On behalf of myself and COMBAT members, at home and in the diasporas, I congratulate Your Excellencies on the Supreme Court’s dismissal of the PDP’s suit challenging your nomination as the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate. This is a victory for democracy and the rule of law.

He continued,”The PDP’s suit was frivolous and baseless. It was clear that Your Excellencies were eligible to run for presidency and vice presidency, and the Supreme Court has rightly upheld your right to do so.

“I am confident that Your Excellencies will be great president and vice president for Nigeria. You have wealth of experience and knowledge, and you are committed to serving the people. Alhamdulilai, that Supreme Court just quashed a conspiracy of Nigeria’s enemies. I wish you all the best in your new role and once again, Congratulations, Sirs!.
